2013 was a year full of surprises.
First off, the house moving was a lot more work than I’d expected. Not the move in itself, but settling in at the new apartment and making the apartment ready and getting it just the way I want it. So there has been a lot of home improvement, like customizing furniture and stuff. I don’t mind though, I like it. It’s just that time is limited. I get some free time when my daughter is taking a nap, but that’s not really the best time to bring out the power tools… Everything is coming along nicely though, and I really love the new place!
My painting desk/hobby space is still not ready for use. This has been at the bottom of my priority list the whole time. This means that Space Hulk 3rd Edition and Gears of War is still not painted… I was certain I would finally get it done in 2013. 🙁
On the other hand I have gotten the time to actually play more games. Both video games and boardgames. A friend of mine got me drawn into Magic the Gathering once more… I wouldn’t recommend anyone to start with MtG, since it’s really addictive and a real sinkhole for money. The whole meta-game is actually bigger than the game itself and it takes take and preparation to make some cool decks. But that’s the thing! You have 17.000 cards to choose from and they all interact. This is pure awesomeness!!
2013 was also the year that I finally got to play Small World and Relic Runners. Both really good games, although I prefer Small World to Relic Runners. It really grows on you once you get familiar with all the races and their abilities. Highly recommended!
I recevied my kickstarted Reaper Bones and Zombicide, so I’m really lagging behind with my painting. Considering this, I decided to not pledge for Reaper Bones 2 and Zombicide 2. I could not however, pass up the opportunity to pledge for some cool terrain from 3DForge Miniatures. I’m not convinced about the miniatures, I would like to see some real examples first instead of 3D images. But I figured terrain is easier to make, and it seemed like a good deal with all the strechgoals, so i went for this. This kickstarter is about to expire, so you’d better hurry if you’re interested.
Space Hulk was released once more as a videogame (or should I say twice more?). I picked it on Steams christmas sale for a few Euros, together with Magic 2014 and Magic 2013. Steam’s christmas sale is really worth checking out and I nearly missed it, as usual…
The next big thing in 2013 was that I was laid off at work. This was really troublesome considering the costs and loans involved with the new apartment. A fair amount of time has been dedicated to finding a new job, which I did. I’m starting the new job in February, so things are looking bright now. My family has been really supportive to me through all this, and I’m so lucky and privileged to have them.
I have a good feeling about 2014. This might actually be the year I bring a painted Space Hulk to the table. For real… 🙂
